FIVE MINUTES WITH... (From January Shropshire Business Magazine)
NAME Jess Bailey
POSITION: Talent Manager
1. IN A NUTSHELL, WHAT DOES YOUR COMPANY DO?
Team4you is a Recruitment Consultancy which opened in April 2019, we provide permanent and temporary recruitment solutions across a range of different industries. Our mission and vision has always been clear, to approach recruitment from an ethical perspective, putting people first, before any Company objectives we have set. We have a responsibility as Consultants to act in the best interest of both clients and candidates alike.
2. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN YOUR CURRENT JOB?
I am extremely proud to say that I have been with Team4you since the day it was founded – 23/04/2019
3. EXPLAIN A TYPICAL WEEK IN YOUR WORKING LIFE:
Typically, my week involves a mix of telephone screening and assessing candidates face to face. Attending networking events, especially as we joined The Shropshire Chamber of Commerce in September 2019. I also work closely with the Job Centre and local colleges. Visiting clients is a really important part of my job as we cannot recruit with accuracy without spending time in the clients environment and understanding their business. My job also requires me to be creative, especially as we are a new business, so myself and the team often have strategy meetings to explore new ideas and set clear objectives going forward. Some readers may have seen me on LinkedIn and other social media platforms, as I enjoy producing short videos of what I am up to. Growing my social media presence has been a huge focus of mine in the last few months.
4. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACING YOUR INDUSTRY RIGHT NOW?
One of the biggest objections I face is the perception of recruitment agencies. Some perspective clients I speak to have had a bad experience and often have simply been bombarded with unsuitable CV’s. This is a challenge for us as a new business, especially as we actually dislike CV’s! We offer a bespoke recruitment package, designed with our clients to ensure that we carry out our candidate search with accuracy and clear objectives.
5. AND WHAT ARE THE BIG OPPORTUNITIES?
There are so many! Especially since we are new, innovative and have a strong business model to support our fresh approach to recruitment. Team4you offers 6 month payment terms, split into 6 easily manageable monthly payments. This offer alone sets us apart from a lot of other recruiters and provides exciting opportunity to supply temporary and permanent staff across a variety of industries.
6. HOW DO YOU GET THE BEST OUT OF YOUR STAFF?
Team4you is a solid team of likeminded, professional recruiters, who also know how to have fun! We often have family get togethers at weekends, have lots of teambuilding activities planned for 2020 (including a charity mud run!) and all enjoy a well earned drink together on a Friday afternoon at end of the working week. We get the best out of each other by listening to each other, being supportive, and trusting each other to do what we say we are going to do. We are currently a small team, so being open and honest with each other is extremely important.
7. WHAT WAS YOUR LAST MEETING ABOUT, HOW LONG DID IT LAST, AND WAS IT PRODUCTIVE?
My last meeting was with a client of mine, we were discussing a recent candidate assessment day I held on their behalf last week. We were preparing a shortlist for some interviews that are being held next week. It was very productive and they are pleased with the calibre of candidates they had to choose from.
8. HOW MANY EMAILS DO YOU GET IN A DAY, AND HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU HAVE TO READ THEM?
As all job applications for my roles come directly into my inbox I can receive quite a few! Maintaining my inbox is always a high priority, I have a good filing system, so I can easily access emails. I enjoy reading emails and find it a great way to communicate with clients and candidates alike.
9. DO YOU ANSWER WORK CALLS OR EMAILS AT HOME? WHAT’S THE RIGHT WORK-LIFE BALANCE?
Definitely something I need to work on! I am very prone to working “out of hours” and not downing tools when I should. I honestly am not trying to impress anyone by saying that and it is a habit I need to address. Sometimes it feels there are not enough hours in the day! Especially with the Shrewsbury office opening recently, it has been a really busy time.
10. HOW DO YOU HOPE YOUR COLLEAGUES WOULD DESCRIBE YOU?
Bubbly, positive and honest (hopefully!)
11. BREXIT – WHAT’S YOUR VIEW OF WHAT IT’S ALL GOING TO MEAN?
The question everyone is asking! Brexit has strong consequences in my sector as it will mean that potentially, businesses may exercise caution when looking to grow, or replace previous employees. We have been focusing on our business model to ensure that employers can still recruit with confidence. The truth is, even at this late stage, we really do not know what it was going to mean. The short and long term effect on the economy, in terms of growth, recession, employment, house prices and interest rates is unclear. We just have to pay attention and prepare as best we can!
12. HIGHLIGHTS OR LOWLIGHTS OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
One huge highlight of my career so far has been to be involved with Team4you from the day it opened! It was a risk I took, with a mortgage and a family to support, but it has paid off in so many ways. I am so lucky to say I really enjoy my job, although working for a start up company comes with a lot of pressure and uncertainty, it has taught me so much in a short space of time.
13. PET HATES?
Arrogance, dishonesty and prejudice.
14. IF YOU COULD GO BACK AND GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF SOME WISE ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
To believe in my own ability, to not be scared of failure and probably most importantly to embrace change.
15. HOW DO YOU RELAX AWAY FROM WORK?
Work hard, play hard is definitely true in my case! I have two young children at home, so when I am not at work, they keep me very busy. I enjoy visiting National Trust locations and socialising with friends and family.
16. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE SHROPSHIRE BUSINESS COMMUNITY?
I am hugely passionate about my home County. I have had the opportunity to relocate in the past when I was younger, but have always found my way home again! Shropshire is a place which offers so much, being on the Welsh border means Shropshire benefits from a strong community of industry, service and agriculture. I have worked for several local large organisations in my career and have always found the business community to be friendly, engaging and professional.
17. TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT MOST PEOPLE PROBABLY WOULDN’T KNOW.
I have a morbid fear of frogs!..... Seriously its terrible.
18. YOU CAN TAKE ONE BOOK, ONE FILM AND ONE CD ONTO A DESERT ISLAND – WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Book – Margaret Atwood -The Testaments. I am yet to read it, but am currently watching a Handmaids Tale
Film – Huge Harry Potter fan here! I couldn’t pick a favourite though!
CD – Anything (everything) by The Foo Fighters – the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band on earth
19. YOUR FIVE DREAM DINNER PARTY GUESTS, DEAD OR ALIVE?
20. WHAT WOULD YOU COOK FOR THEM…?
My husband loves my slow cooked cottage pie, so I guess that would be a good place to start! (not that he will be there!)
